Baltimore Contractors, for all your Home Improvement Projects
|
Baltimore Contractors is your source for local contractors for remodeling, major renovations and building additions on your home. By the term contractor we mean a general contractor, or builder that will handle projects that require multiple trades. The general contractor will manage the overall project, and is responsible for the performance of all the subcontractors he hires.
Some contractors specialize in remodeling kitchens and bathrooms; while others focus on larger projects like additions and major renovations. Some enjoy the challenge of renovating older buildings, while others prefer new construction. To get more information on any of the Baltimore contractors listed below simply double click on their logo and you will see a dedicated page about their company, their business focus and complete contact information.
Depending on the size of the job you may want to start with an architect and have plans drawn up. With plans it is much easier to get multiple bids. If you are planning on financing the project with a home improvement loan you will typically need plans. If not make up some simple drawings of your own, define what you want, define the materials, and have a budget.
When you meet with a prospective contractor this may all change, but this will speed up the process and help insure a successful outcome. Remember changes almost always mean additional expense and delays, so take the time to define everything at the outset. If it is a basement conversion, kitchen or bathroom remodeling, chances are your builder can draw up his own plans or works with someone who can, but you want to see them and get a copy.
Your Baltimore Home Improvement contractor will sub-contract out some of the work to other contractors who work in licensed trades such as plumbers, electricians, and HVAC. Baltimore City, Baltimore County and the surrounding counties each have their own building codes and licensing requirements. Building permits, proper licensing, and scheduled building inspections are typically handled by your contractor as part of the work. But make sure if you have a homeowners association for your neighborhood that you get a copy of the guidelines and give a copy to your contractor.
The other thing to consider, can you live in your home with your remodeling project is underway. What is the impact on you and your family not having the use of a kitchen for six weeks? Would you prefer to wait until the kids are on summer vacation before starting? There are many avenues to consider when undertaking a restoration project or even updating you master bed room closet, dust alone can wreck havoc in your world.
So plan ahead, think about the scope of work you want done, and if you have a couple of little projects, it might be more cost effective to combine them. Lastly, if the builder tells you it would be the most efficient approach to the project for you to live elsewhere while the work is being completed, take head to his advice but define the work completion date and what happens if the work is not completed on schedule.
